A New Encounter with Ko Murobushi“Faux Pas”

Outline of the project

In order to promote artistic and cultural activities in Tokyo, production of the Murobushi Kō Exhibition (to be held in Vienna this summer) was shared with the public through expert-led workshops, lectures, and practical instruction such as Kei Osawa’s lecture “Recording Dance-From Archive to Exhibition,” Discussion between Emmanuel Huynh and Tatsuro Ishii, “Cultural Location of Dance – France’s Challenges and Transformations,” Emmanuel Huynh’s workshop “Faux Pas,” Susumu Kihara’s exhibition workshop “After the misstep-Clumsily Creating the Ko Murobushi Exhibition,” and Hidehiko Narita’s photography workshop “Photography as a Record.” Additionally various other activities related to the exhibition such as dialogues on “Anti-Dance,” presentations based on the production an exhibition catalog “Seen from Catalogue,” lecture based on video “Through the Archive Footage” were shared with participants. Through sharing the process of production with others in this way, the organizers were also able to gain much insight into curation and exhibit display.

Ko & Edge
Ko & Edge, a general incorporated association, is the operating body of the Ko Murobushi Archives, and opened a space called Shy, housing Murobushi’s books and materials, in Shinjuku, Tokyo on March 14, 2016. In addition, as a base for Murobushi research by researchers from Japan and overseas, it hosts a series of symposiums and study groups, disseminating information on an ongoing basis, and also hosts various projects.
