The 37th Ogikubo Music Festival held 45 performances at 21 venues over 4 days. The number of performers who applied reached 77, returning the level to the pre-COVID-19 level.
At the 7th Ogikubo Youth Ensemble Concert, a Fresh Junior Concert alumni made a triumphant return as solo oboe, which was a touching moment. For the 10th Mirai Yume Concert, we invited the Minamisoma City Haramachi First Junior High School Brass Band, as we did last year. The Suginami Youth Wind Orchestra, which was formed last year, was organized with 66 members this year, and its performance level has been improving every year. The sight of the members deepening their mutual exchanges through their individual and joint performances moved many audience members.
We were also able to return to performances in open spaces such as the Ogikubo Town Seven Station Square before the COVID-19 pandemic, providing many people with the opportunity to casually experience classical music on the streets of Ogikubo. We will continue to make Ogikubo a livable and enjoyable place to live at this music festival.
“Ogikubo, the town where you can enjoy classical music”
Ogikubo has a cultural climate built by its predecessors. A group called the “Society for Thinking about Ogikubo in the 21st Century” was formed to help residents think about ways to make Ogikubo a more livable town, such as the development of the area in front of the station and the environmental issues surrounding Ogikubo. The aim was to revitalize Ogikubo, a town where even the elderly and small children can live safely. Through classical music, the momentum for town development in Ogikubo increased, and the Ogikubo Music Festival was started.
