Shibuya Photo Archive Exhibition 2024

  • Organization : Commons Archive Collective
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

This exhibition expands on the 2023 edition by adding and reorganising 100 photographs of Harajuku and Daikanyama, alongside 200 images of the Shibuya Station area by Tadayasu Onishi. Visitors can compare past and present landscapes through a large printed map marking the photo locations and QR codes attached to each photograph that link to Google Street View.
In collaboration with Shibuya City, the exhibition also featured large prints of PR newsletters from the same era as the photographs, sourced from the digital archive SHIBUYA CITY RECORD, offering an immersive historical context. A talk session with Michihiko Yanai and Tetsuya Chihara was also held, drawing a full audience as they explored Shibuya’s past and present through the lens of local creators.
The exhibition attracted significant media coverage, including newspapers, television, and radio. Over its short nine-day run, it welcomed approximately 6,600 visitors.
