High School Street Dance Competition

The SSDW CONTEST is a street dance competition in which teams of high school students vie in a battle which requires flexible thinking and effective collaboration. Its aims are the training and discovery of young aspiring dancers.

*Please note that this event will involve press coverage/photography/filming for the organizer’s PR records and by the media.

How to participate

【Entry requirements】
Teams applying for entry must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. The team’s members must be enrolled in high school (years 1-3) at the time of applying.
  2. The team must be made up of members of a school-authorized dance or dance-related club (a school-authorized club whose activities include dance)
  3. Multiple teams from the same dance club of the same school may not apply.

【Team size】
5 or more members per team

【Performance requirements】
Stage size: 17m (width) × 15m (depth)
Performance time: 2 to 2.5 minutes (*Teams exceeding this time limit will be disqualified.)
Props: Teams may use any props that they can set up by themselves, and set up/remove within 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after their performance.
*Teams exceeding this time limit will be disqualified.

Number of participating teams
20 teams from around Japan
*First-come, first-served basis

Friday, July 6 – Friday, September 28 2018

Viewing of rehearsal for and entry to the Tokyo performance of “DANCE DANCE ASIA-Crossing the Movements” (planned to be held in December)
(Organized by the Japan Foundation Asia Center and PARCO Co., Ltd.)
**Dance Dance Asia – Crossing the Movements” is a project which supports exchange and collaboration in Asia among dance groups/dancers whose activity is based on the key words “street dance” (including jazz dance and contemporary dance). The Japan Foundation Asia Center and PARCO are advancing this project with the aim of being a part of a new wave of cultural creation in Asia.
