Transposition means to move from your current position to a different place, or to replace existing things/methods with different ones. The wonder of diverse transposition forms the appeal of art and expression through the medium of film, i.e. changes in perspective or editing tempo, the expression of a single theme using different media or methods, and changes to fundamental culture or physical environment. The 11th Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions will offer a diverse array of works and programs based on “transposition.”
Transposition does not necessarily deny and destroy existing approaches. When conventional common sense and rules are not functioning well, consciously standing in a different place is a way of continuing to search for more than one answer, and to ask questions in order to discover what is unchanged and what is difficult to change. While experiencing a variety of transpositions, we will think about positive action and creativity with creators, communicators and the audience.
