A variety of interaction takes place on a daily basis onsite at art projects, where people from different backgrounds gather, talk and work together. What enriches project sites and time spent there is these diverse forms of communication; and one such form is the visual language of signing.
Workshop-style lectures touch upon the sensory perception of deaf people, and also show beginners how to communicate through physical movement such as finger movements and facial expressions. Together with sign language and physical expression workshop instructor Yumiko Kawai and sign language interpreter Yuko Setoguchi, participants will gain firsthand experience of sign language and deaf culture with the aim of learning approaches to communication which do not rely on speech.
When applying, please select your preferred course from Schedule A (October 2023, Thursdays from 19:00) and Schedule B (November 2023, Sundays from 14:00).
*The same content is planned for both Schedules.
