Under the theme of “preserving natural lifestyles and culture created through sign language,” the metote-lab “Archive Project” comprises research and discussion on new archiving methods for sign language and the lives and culture of deaf people, as well the application of those methods.
This event gives participants the opportunity to watch home movies filmed in the home of Mr Nasu, a deaf person, and to leave a written record of what they noticed, realized, or imagined.
Join us to think about topics such as what constitutes sign language and deaf culture, as we view scenes of natural sign language conversation between family members, see the (deaf) culture that has developed within those relationships and the social conditions at the time of filming etc. and converse with Mr Ioka and family members appearing in the home movies.
