metote study series Part 2: Exploring the world of children’s play

Genre:
  • Art Project ,
  • Workshop ,
  • Others

Among metote-lab’s projects is “Asobiba,”a project which gathers the play and creative “insights” that develop naturally from sign language and visual actions, and also explores methods of playing with visual language through research, workshops, and more.
To further explore play with visual language, Asobiba organizers are holding the second part of the “metote Study Series,” a project that touches upon the appeal of sign language.

This time around, the focus is on “the world of children’s play.” Our guest is Jo Matsuzaki, a deaf education researcher.

First off, Mr Matsuzaki will give a lecture on the background to play created by deaf and hearing-impaired children, the process of creating play and the key points for understanding children’s behavior, exploring the “world of play” through several case studies.

Next, in a mini talk we will see video of actual play between deaf children and their parents and hear about the “sign language-like” communication used exclusively in the home, as well as the parents’ perspective on the background and process to play developed by the children.

We hope the lecture and mini talk provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about understanding child behavior and strengthen their everyday interaction/relationships with children.
Why not explore the world of children’s play together with Mr Matsuzaki and other participants?
