Among metote-lab’s projects is “Asobiba,”a project which gathers the play and creative “insights” that develop naturally from sign language and visual actions, and also explores methods of playing with visual language through research, workshops, and more.
To further explore play with visual language, Asobiba organizers are holding the third part of the “metote Study Series,” a project that touches upon the appeal of sign language.
This time around, our guest is Akiko Kazumi, a member of The Japanese Theatre of the Deaf who also works as a Japanese Sign Language instructor. The session will create an opportunity for participants to reexamine and exchange Classifier-based expression.
Many people know that sign language incorporates the “visual grammar” system of “Classifiers,” but until now there have been few opportunities to share information about Classifiers even among the deaf community and people whose first language is sign language.
This session with Ms. Kazumi, who has extensive stage experience and is well known for expression in sign language, will help develop our knowledge of Classifier-based expression. Let’s all experience the rich and creative world of Classifier-based expression, encountering new perspectives and the joy of expression.
