What we do

Dancing with Kyo―

  • Organization : Creative Art Executive Committee
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Dance

Outline

In order to broaden the range of integrated dance activities, there is a need to increase the number of art access opportunities for people with disabilities and to establish spaces and programs for independent expression. Through such activities, we proactively discover dancers with disabilities, which in turn can open up paths to professional careers. In providing opportunities for a number of company members to learn workshop facilitation, we also train multiple facilitators within the company and build a basis for the expansion of future activities. Accordingly, we carry out not only conventional open recruitment-style workshops, but also traveling workshops that visit special support schools, facilities for people with disabilities, day centers and more. In December we will hold a basic presentation. The program term is September through December (with workshops held twice a month). The facilitators are Aki Kawashita, Sachiko Takenaka, Wolfgang Stange, and Kyo members.

Profile

【Creative Art Executive Committee】
Since 1990, the Creative Art Executive Committee has explored the roles of new art forms through creative collaborations by people with and without disabilities. This led to the establishment in 2014 of Integrated Dance Company Kyo, which continues to open up new creative territory in the world of contemporary dance.
