Outline

“Cantat” is a new term devised to signify the event/choral festival where intensive workshops, seminars and concerts will be taken place for choirs and singers.
Since its launch in 1996, Tokyo Cantat has been held every year with the object of penetrating choral music into Japan society and promoting the choral activities as a part of the culture. In 2019, the 24th Tokyo Cantat, we will invite the distinguished conductors from abroad again. In addition to the variety of activities taken place during the festival includes the seminars/workshops, open rehearsals during the festival, we hold the Concert with particular focus on the beauty of Japanese poems and literature and featuring the guest conductors in the Closing Concert. The 4th Choral “Kohaku” Contest — farewell HEISEI , on 29th April, looked back the Heisei era with popular songs and choral songs of that time. On 3rd May, Concert Series X “Yamato – Where Kechimyaku of Songs Lies” — To the future since that day – Remembrance of the 11th March, 2011, collected choral works motivated by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 11 March 2011. It was an opportunity to empathise with the people affected areas and to reaffirm that the 3.11 is not someone else’s problem but OURS.

Profile

“Music Tree” the think tank of choralists for 21st century’s choral music
“Music Tree” is the organization established in November, 1996 with the group people who are involved in choral music activities from all the perspectives, such as choral conductors, composers, poets, pianists, voice trainers and professional choral singers. The idea is to work on the choral music as an art form and promote the choral activities as a part of the culture that we pursue opportunities to create “better music” together as well as to encounter the people from around the world to share the musical emotions and excitements. “Music Tree” organizes two major projects, Tokyo Cantat and Coro Festa. In addition, we organize annual events with more focused objectives, ‘Spring Atelier’ and ‘Yatsugatake Music Seminar’.
