FumenKaiga
With the definition of imagination as “what flows between reality (society) and fiction (a work),” Fugen Kaiga’s purpose is to continue creating works to evoke new forms of imagination in real life. In elaborate conversation-based plays, the troupe applies methods from Noh and traditional forms of expression in its creative process, and regularly produces work in not only theaters, but in a variety of spaces including galleries, temples, and art studios. In addition, the company explores an improved relationship between audience seating and the stage, looking for configurations beyond that of the stage and the audience seats simply facing each other, and weighing up different approaches to seating.
In order that audiences appreciate the work in response to what they have seen and the environment they have experienced before coming to the venue, the troupe proactively assimilates the power of place in its creative process to intensify and enrich its works.
