This is an art festival on the theme of “living and dying,” developed from workshops on the same theme run by Setagaya Public Theatre from 2019 with a focus on elderly people living in the Shimouma public housing complex. The fruits of discoveries and exchanges from the workshops will be presented as a form of cultural festival. Organizers hope that a festival about housing complexes, which are manifesting problems related to Japan’s fast-approaching “super-aged” society such as “kodokushi” (dying alone and unnoticed), will promote understanding by others and regenerate the community.
