Outline

Due to concerns over the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) and in consideration of the health and safety of participants and staff members, this program was canceled.

Association Gidayū is holding a special event at which it will present a digital restoration of an old audio recording from its archives featuring female-style Gidayū, complete with expert commentary. The event will give Gidayū practitioners the opportunity to learn from a renowned performance of the past, and audience members the chance to appreciate performance highlights.

Profile

General Incorporated Association Gidayū
Launched in 1970 with the aim of popularizing and advancing Gidayū.
The group comprises professional performers from fields such as Kabuki Gidayū, female-style Gidayū and Buyo dance, as well as Gidayū aficionados. The group has been dubbed the “Leader of the Music,” and its mission is to take Gidayū – which has greatly influenced other forms of Japanese music and narrative arts – to the next generation.
