Outline

A lecture performance on the theme of education looking at topics including the Constitution, laws, curriculum guidelines, and school regulations. The lecture on what defines Japanese education and what is excluded from it unfolds in a virtual classroom set up in the theater. Eventually the existence of things that are excluded from the lecture itself is revealed before the audience’s eyes. After each performance, there was also a Q&A session with the audience.

A unit founded in 2019 by director/actor Hashimoto Kiyoshi and critic/dramaturg Yamazaki Kenta. y/n presents performance works based on research and documentary techniques which consider private matters within the social structure. Past works include “Coming Out Lessons” (2020) dealing with the coming out of gay men, and “From Koenji, Aichi, Brazil” (2023) on the theme of Japanese and Brazilian immigrants.
