Principal instructor
Tazaki Hajime (Utai), Yamada Isumi (Mai)

Event features
Participants select and gain hands-on experience of either Utai or Mai, two of the important elements that constitute Noh.By making the rehearsal period a lengthy six months from March through August, the aim is to make rehearsal days feel like a normal day for the participants. In terms of Utai, participants will be able to learn in a way tailored to each through individual lessons, and their set pieces will also differ.Mai on the other hand is a relatively easy course to participate in, because group rehearsal makes it easier to tackle, and all participants will dance to the same piece of music.

Publicity methods for the recruitment of participants (collaboration, cooperation, networking, etc.)
Distribution of flyers to the Hosho Noh Theater and Kongo Noh Theater which the instructors are affiliated to, as well as to venues used, other Noh theaters and Noh stages across Japan, Tokyo University of the Arts, and cultural facilities. Additionally, a dedicated website will be launched to post information and communicate online via social media.

Ways to enable participants to continue with practical skills experience (other than programs covered by this grant) after the end of the event
Those who wish to continue practicing during the rehearsal period and after the presentation will be introduced to each instructor’s rehearsal studio.
In this case we will ask the individual’s requirements and provide a rehearsal venue to match the applicant. If you wish to do this in another prefecture, we will provide a list and distribute it on the dedicated website or as a hard copy in writing. In addition, participants will be kept informed of events such as Noh performances, Noh lectures, and workshops via the special website or in writing.
