Event features
To make it easier for beginners to take part, the course covers pieces of music that are familiar to people of all ages and that widely use scales and basic playing techniques unique to Japanese musical instruments.
We provide a program tailored to each participant with the aim of providing three months of hands-on experience, after which participants become competent enough to be able to showcase what they have learned at a final presentation. At the same time, by combining individual lessons and group lessons, we provide instruction tailored to each participant’s age and status, deepening each person’s understanding of the instrument.

Publicity methods for the recruitment of participants (collaboration, cooperation, networking, etc.)
In addition to posting information on Tsurukororin’s Instagram, newsletter, and information website, we will distribute recruitment flyers to cultural facilities in Kita-ku.

Ways to enable participants to continue with practical skills experience (other than programs covered by this grant) after the end of the event
Tsurukororin members regularly hold performances and workshops, and some own rehearsal spaces for which we can provide information to anyone interested. Additionally, for participants who find it difficult to continue attending practice sessions in person, we provide services such as online lessons and the arrangement of instrument rental.

Profile

Tsurukororin
Founded in 2023 by five Koto/Shakuhachi players, instructors, and licensed teachers from Tokyo University of the Arts. They communicate the appeal of Japanese musical instruments from multiple perspectives by leveraging their respective expertise. The group’s name Tsurukororin comes from the “tsuru” and “kororin” playing techniques for the Koto and the “tsu”, “ru,” and “kororin” blowing techniques for the Shakuhachi. To date, the group has organized workshops and concerts for beginners with the aim of raising public recognition of and promulgating the Koto and Shakuhachi.
