Outline

The Setagaya ume matsuri (Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival), offers numerous events carrying tidings of spring, such as the mochi rice pounding by Mitoshirokai and matcha and sencha open-air tea ceremonies, as well as koto music and taiko drum performances.
In recent years, traditional Japanese performing arts have been gaining acceptance among many non-Japanese people, with many non-Japanese tourists visiting the venue to experience these arts. In addition, festivalgoers are met by everyone involved in the event with the aim of passing down Japan’s traditional performing arts to the next generation while incorporating new elements suited to the coming age.
