A trio of programs focusing on filmmakers who continue to produce and screen films despite facing hardships.
［Myanmar］ Lights from the Underground showcased the results of a filmmaking workshop aimed at nurturing young filmmakers subject to the everyday constraints of life under a military coup.
［Russia］ Confrontation with the Motherland featured works by Russian filmmakers who have left the country in opposition to the war with Ukraine.
［Democratic Republic of the Congo］Congo Sasa was a selection of films depicting the tumultuous reality of the situation in DRC, a country worn down by ongoing civil war.
Additionally, a symposium, Can Movies Be Made Anywhere? ―Filmmaking under Crisis Conditions, was held to promote understanding of the background to the films. The symposium featured four speakers who took part in the program selection: Moe Myat May Zarchi from Myanmar, Vladimir Nadein from Russia, Lio Nelki whose film projects focus on the UK and DRC, and filmmaker Mugabo Baritegera. Acting as moderator was Keiko Sei, who has been involved in support for Myanmar’s democracy movement.
