Outline

Ripple-Contemporary Japanese and Chinese Artists Relay Exhibition featured six artists representing the “contemporary young generation”: Sakura Momma (Japan), Lee He-Yi (China), Nozomi Suzuki (Japan), Cai Dongdong (China), Kenji Chiga (Japan), and Luka Yuanyuan Yang (China). The artists gave a series of relay-style solo exhibitions and related events and created installation works employing a variety of materials and methods of expression including textiles, paper, and photographs. The artists from Japan and China interacted with and stimulated each other regarding the social issues and challenges that currently interest them as well as methods and perspectives for creating works, presenting a new awareness and fresh angles on their concerns. Through these efforts, and with international mobility and exchange now recovering post-coronavirus, the aim was to build a framework that can maximize the power of art and contribute to social dialog and cultural development, strengthen the relationship between artists, audiences, and local communities, and bring richness and meaning to everyday life.
