Outline

This musical event created together by artists and festival staff active in Japan and overseas as well as islanders and all participants reaffirmed and communicated the appeal of the Ogasawara islands. As well as music workshops and workshops by backstage technicians, cultural exchange and group learning of traditional island songs, the event encouraged sustainability, allowing all participants to enjoy the experience of reducing environmental impact through the festival’s principle “changing Ogasawara through the Bonin Island Jazz festival,” and also contributed to the promotion of local culture.

BONIN ISLAND JAZZ Executive Committee
A voluntary organization made up of volunteers from inside and outside the Ogasawara Islands. The event is held in cooperation with professional technicians and experts.
The Committee has organized five events in seven years, beginning with
“ISLAND JAZZ @ THE EARTH in Ogasawara 2016” as part of the “Thank you! Ogasawara Maru/Hahajima Maru” ships campaign in 2016. Other subsequent events include the Ogasawara Music Festival, an initiative commemorating the 2018 Ogasawara Islands 50th Anniversary of Reversion, and in January this year, the BONIN ISLAND JAZZ 2023 Winter event, implemented with coronavirus infection prevention measures in place.
