This project connected the dots between Tokyo and Mexico City, gazing at the urban from a broad perspective, exposing its problems, and encouraging the emergence of a vibrant future culture.
In Mexico City, Ryoko Kimura, MES, Ryohta Shimamoto, and Yoshidayamar exhibited their works. Ryoko Kimura used traditional Japanese techniques and motifs to create a mural, a typical Mexican artistic expression. MES received high reputation for his performance of black candles, which conveyed the artist’s intention to counter the current international situation of war. Ryohta Shimamoto’s installation evoked the blowing up of a mine that modernized Mexico, and created an illusion that blended the histories of the two countries in relation to the city. The continuous sound of Yoshidayamar’s handmade records played in the exhibition had the effect of making visitors think about their gaze on the city. In Tokyo, APRDELESP presented an architectural model and video of a clash of emos vs punks, which investigated the friction that exists in the urban environment from multiple perspectives.
