We the Executive Committee have held the third edition of this marching parade with the desire to bring comfort and hope to people’s hearts.
With the cooperation of the local community, a four-lane road was subject to blanket traffic restrictions for around 1km. In addition to local teams, around 1,000 people appeared in the parade, including a leading and nationally renowned marching band from the metropolitan area, wowing the 20,000-plus visitors.
We believe the captivating tradition of marching is a march for peace and culture: in our efforts to communicate this to the world, we not only provided a livestream on the day of the event but also gave announcements in English.
Besides marching, we put our effort into generating fresh appeal for the event by incorporating different genres, such as wadaiko drums and traditional Japanese “kiyari” work songs, which have been around since the Edo period.
We hope the Hachioji Yokoyamaminami Marching Festival will become a beacon of hope to light up the community. Through this event we are determined to carry on playing our part in promoting Tokyo’s appeal and its arts and culture from Hachioji, the western edge of Tokyo, to the nation and to the world.
