The Setagaya ume matsuri (Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival), which this year marks its 45th anniversary, offered numerous events carrying tidings of spring, such as the mochi rice pounding by Mitoshirokai and matcha and sencha open-air tea ceremonies, as well as koto music and taiko drum performances. Visitors were met by everyone involved in the festival in order to pass Japan’s traditional arts down to the next generation.
