Event features
A series of lectures and a presentation enabling participants to experience shamisen and ohayashi in ensemble format, under the instruction of the six members of the “Female Shamisen Player Nenoiro.”
The NENOIRO LAND program allows even the younger generation to experience continuous learning and playing of Japanese instruments.
The three main features of the program are as follows.
1 No more “I don’t understand”
Up to 6 professional musicians will support participants’ playing during lessons. The program also provides thorough guidance and support for home practice in the form of instruction videos.
2 No experience of failure
Since the program focus is the ensemble format, any failures/mistakes in playing or performance – the biggest hurdle for beginners of Japanese musical instruments – will hardly be noticeable.
3 Creating the urge to continue learning
The final presentation, a joint performance featuring all instruments playing together, will be given by over 100 participants of both beginner and intermediate level. A community of musicians will be formed through mutually beneficial relationships that are only mildly “hierarchical.”
Publicity methods for the recruitment of participants (collaboration, cooperation, networking, etc.)
Flyers on social media (Instagram, Facebook), and in music stores
Asking former program participants to disseminate information.
Providing information to organizations that promote Edo culture such as Chuo City Tourism Association and Meijiya Hall.
Ways to enable participants to continue with practical skills experience (other than programs covered by this grant) after the end of the event
This is the fifth term of the program, and there are already a number of continuing students enrolled.
Beginners will be able to continue taking the continuing course after completing this course.
For those who wish to study more privately, all instructors also have private classes, so it is possible to take one-time or ongoing lessons with a variety of instructors for supplementary or additional training.
