Many invited musicians from Japan and overseas will perform improvised music over a 2-day period, for 7 hours each day. On both days, about 8 groups of varying formations ― duos, trios and larger ensembles ― will each perform for about 30-40 minutes. In addition to Japanese musicians there will be musicians from the UK, Germany, Austria, France, China, Korea and Singapore, for a total of about 40 artists. They play a wide range of instruments, from conventional acoustic instruments to computers, electronics, and self-made instruments, from which various types of music are created. Over these 2 days you can witness performances at the forefront of contemporary improvised music.
The first Ftarri Festival was held in April 2008 at SuperDeluxe in Tokyo and UrBANGUILD in Kyoto. Improvised music concerts are held on a regular basis in the shop’s open space.
