Up until now Yusuke Kimura’s works have looked at the language of edgy, left-field writers such as Beckett, Jisho Kin, and Arika Kasatsuji. Now for the first time he has taken on the challenge of Shakespeare, staging this new drama with a feminist perspective. The work incorporates a mix of quotes from and textual homage to a new translation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and Euripides’ Greek tragedy “The Women of Troy” in the main. The production featured a diverse lineup of performers selected through an open call from 126 applicants.
Additionally, Indian director and actor Soti Ramapati Dwivid, whose strong interest in the work led him to sign up to the project without further ado, conducted international joint research in tandem with the production.
