This work based on the Miyazawa Kenji work “The Nighthawk Star” and themed around beauty and ugliness questions the meaning of pure beauty.
Story
Dancer Yodaka is the most popular member of the circus because of her beauty.
However, nothing else is required of her apart from looking lovely, and she isn’t even allowed to open her mouth.
As a result, Yodaka is lonely, and keeps her thoughts to herself. But then she encounters Sasori, an artist whose talent has been exploited and is now incapable of creating anything. After meeting Sasori, Yodaka starts to feel like escaping from the “beauty” she is trapped inside…
– Let’s demolish the “beautiful” stage for true happiness.
Based on Miyazawa Kenji’s “The Nighthawk Star,” this is a story of liberation by those who have been prisoners of beauty and tied to their place

Shabadaba
Under the concept of “giving proof of one’s existence,” Shabadaba creates “Japanese jukebox musicals with no singing,” in which performers dance to existing Japanese songs based on classical literature.
Shabadaba is a theatrical unit comprising director Elena Fanourakis, a graduate of J.F. Oberlin University, and producer Haruhi Oikawa.
It offers entertainment that can transform hell into heaven as in the Buddhist concept of Sahā (Shaba), in works that reflect the persevering human spirit of challenging ourselves without giving up, even if we lead a “daba” packhorse-type existence.
