Profile

Chen Wei Ting
Chen Wei Ting was born in Tainan, Taiwan. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a Master’s degree in Global Art Practice. His childhood was filled with the company of picture books, and he loved constructing his own poetic world on paper. For Chen, writing is a way of capturing fragments of life, and poetry has become another form of painting for him.
His works are mostly created using acrylic and oil pastels, often accompanied by poems that resonate with the visual elements. These poems provide subtle hints, depicting the intersection of childhood and adulthood experiences, as well as the ideal utopia seen through his eyes.
In recent years, Chen’s works have been exhibited internationally in places such as New York, Hong Kong, Spain, Dubai, Thailand, and Japan. He has received awards, including, The 42nd Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize (Selected Work), Shibuya Awards 2021 (Grand Prize) and Shibuya Awards 2023 (Tomio Koyama Jury Prize). Additionally, he has been supported by the Arts Council Tokyo and has been selected for the CAF award 2022 (Contemporary Art Foundation). His works have also been collected by the Lih Pao Cultural Arts Foundation and the Dali Art Park in Taichung. Currently, he is based in Tokyo, where he continues to create.
