Hors Pistes Tokyo is a film festival that explores new experiences in film. Every year, to uncover emerging new talent in Asia, entries are sought from across Japan and the rest of Asia, the best of which are selected to be screened at the festival. In addition, this year, there will be a special feature on up-and-coming writers in Taiwan and a documentary about the indie music scene in South Korea. The festival will also screen works carefully selected from among those shown at the Pompidou Centre’s HORS PISTES 2015 festival. As well as experimental music and film performances, the Video Promenade will be held on two consecutive nights, transforming ordinary street corners into venues for new visual and film experiences with outdoor screenings and performances. The Spotlight on Marguerite Duras program will feature a screening of Duras’s La femme du Gange, a symposium at which Dominique Auvray, her friend and editor, will be a special guest, and a screening of a documentary about Duras directed by Auvray.
This is the Tokyo edition of HORS PISTES (French for “off-track”), an art event held each winter at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. It is a film festival that aims to ensure that creators and viewers can come together to enjoy film from all angles. As well as showcasing new films from Tokyo and the rest of Asia, it features numerous other events, including symposiums exploring new experiences in film, talks, performances, workshops, and parties.
