Short Term Lesson in Fussa

This summer, embrace the traditions of Japan!

This program, which is made up of six lessons and a final performance presentation, provides an opportunity to learn traditional performing arts from professional instructors.

Program

Choose either the “Koto Course” or the “Shamisen Course.”

  • Koto Course
    Participants: Students from elementary school through high school
    Time: (a) 10:00-11:00 or (b) 11:15-12:15
  • Shamisen Course
    Participants: Students from 3rd year of elementary school through high school
    Time: (a) 14:00-15:00 or (b) 15:15-16:15

*Lesson times cannot be specified by participants.

Dates:
Lessons: Saturday, July 29 – Friday, August 4
6 lessons in total *No lesson on Monday, July 31

Performance: Saturday, August 5
Includes rehearsal and demonstration by professional performers

Parent-child day: Koto – Saturday, July 29 / Shamisen – Friday, August 4
*On “Parent-child day,” grownups have a special opportunity to participate along with children. (One adult family member can participate.) Why not take advantage of this chance to experience a traditional performing art together with your child?

Conditions for participation
1. Must be able to attend all lessons and the performance
2. Must be able to cooperate in publicity activities related to this project (participation in press coverage, consent to publication/broadcast of photos/video footage in various media outlets)

Capacity
16 persons for each course (8 persons per class)

Participation fee

5,000 yen
* A separate materials charge of approximately 1,500 yen will apply.

1. Participant’s name

3. School year

7. Preferred course (Koto or Shamisen)
8. Whether or not participant has previous experience in traditional performing arts

Application deadline
Must be received by Tuesday, June 27, 2017
Notification of results will be e-mailed to applicants by Saturday, July 8.

*Applicants’ personal information will be used only by Fussa Shimin Kaikan and the “Traditional Performing Arts for Kids” Office for the purpose of implementing this program.

Performance

This summer, enjoy the presentations of children who participated in the Short-term Lesson, as well as koto and shamisen performances by leading artists.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring your friends along to the venue!

*Performance times will be posted on the “Traditional Performing Arts for Kids” official website once they are confirmed.
*Course content is subject to change.
*Photos/videos will be taken on program days for publicity and documentation purposes.
