This call to artists is video artworks that will be release in Roppongi Art Night Digital [RAN TV].

“Roppongi Art Night Digital” (RAN TV)
“RAN” stands for “Roppongi Art Night.”
This channel was started as a spinoff project from the Roppongi Art Night 2020, and we intend to continue our involvement with and expansion of this channel.

About “Roppongi Art Night 2021”
Title: Roppongi Art Night 2021 “Magical Adventure: Find Your Art of Wonder in the Town!”
Date: Thursday, September 23 – Sunday, September 26 2021
Venues: Roppongi Hills, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo Midtown, Suntory Museum of Art, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, The National Art Center, Tokyo, Roppongi Shopping District, other cooperating facilities and public spaces in Roppongi., and Online

Application Details

  • We are looking for live-action, CG-generated, animated or other types of video artwork content that features music, theater, dance and/or performance.
  • Please submit a previously unreleased video work that is no longer than 15 minutes.
  • Preferably, the content should be in either Japanese or English.
  • The content is scheduled to be streamed on the YouTube channel “Roppongi Art Night Digital (RAN TV).”

Honorarium (Compensation for Data)

For artwork that is selected by the Roppongi Art Night Executive Committee, the Open Call Project Secretariat will provide an honorarium of 100,000 JPY (consumption tax and withholding tax included) after the conclusion of Roppongi Art Night 2021.
*Note that payment will be made either via bank transfer or PayPal.

Works that Do Not Qualify

– Works that advertise or advocate for religious or political causes
– Works that advertise or solicit on behalf of a particular charity
– Works that advertise, market, or advocate for a particular organization, business, or product

Eligible Participants

Artists, creatives, and staff working in the expressive fields of art, video, music, drama, dance, etc. Individuals and groups are both eligible to apply.

Application Instructions

Applicants are asked to fill out and submit an application form.
Please submit your video work to us via YouTube as shown below.

  1. Set the YouTube privacy settings for the video to “Unlisted.”
    *Note: Make sure that the video is not available to anyone except for the Open Call Project jurors.
  2. Enter the link to your video in the application form

*Note that applications cannot be submitted by postal service or in person.

Handling of Personal Information
Personal information acquired via the application process will be managed by the Roppongi Art Night Executive Committee and will not be used for any other purpose.

Delivery of data for works that are selected for use

If your work has been selected for inclusion in our project, please deliver your data by means of a file transfer service, online storage or a similar service. Note that the Open Call Secretariat will add a common title to the beginning of all video content that is to be used.

The required data formats are shown below.
Video formats: QuickTime (.mov) or MP4 (.mp4)
Codec: QuickTime format/Apple ProRes, MP4 format/H264
Resolution (aspect ratio): 1080p (16:9)
Frame rate: unspecified (29.976 fps recommended)
Target bit rate (Mbps): greater than 10Mbps but less than 100Mbps.

Exhibition of Artwork

Artwork that is selected will be published through Roppongi Art Night’s public channel (RAN TV) on YouTube. In addition, a selection of works will be screened on monitors and projectors within the Roppongi area.
As part of the conditions for your submission, we will be exclusively releasing your video content on RAN TV during the period of early September – September 26, 2021, within which time you will not be permitted to release the video elsewhere.
Please also be aware that the artwork may continue to be shown after the conclusion of Roppongi Art Night 2021.

Responsibilities of the Participants (Applicants)

  1. Creating the video artwork and submitting the relevant data
  2. Coordinating and corresponding with individuals affiliated with the video artwork
  3. Images to be provided for publicity use (for use in public relations)
  4. Must have secured copyright or usage rights for all materials

Duties of the Executive Committee

  1. Broadcasting the video artwork
  2. Publishing the information for works included in Roppongi Art Night 2021
  3. Issuing the honorarium fees


Tuesday, June 1 2021: Applications open (via the Web only)
Tuesday, July 13 2021: Application deadline
Mid-to late July 2021: Review of applications *Selection interviews will not be held.
Early August 2021: Final selections made *Applicants will be notified by email from the Open Call Office.
Tuesday, August 17 2021: Video artwork data must be received
Early September 2021: Works published

*Note: Published artwork will continue to be available after the conclusion of Roppongi Art Night 2021.
