Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Professional Development Training (Lecture series): Theater coordinator development course, Dramaturgy course

Genre:
  • Lecture / Symposium

As part of its professional human resource training, the aim of the “Theater coordinator development course” is to develop professionals who can contribute to arts-and-culture-driven creation of community and society, by making the theater accessible to society at large.
In the Dramaturgy course for participants in their teens and above, the instructor, who served as dramaturg for the new production of the musical opera “Yuzuru,” will share the process of creating a performance piece and join participants in thinking about a better system for delivering theatrical works to audiences.

What is a theater coordinator?
The name “theater coordinator” conjures an image of the people who stand between theaters and society, planning, fine-tuning and delivering projects/ events designed to connect the two. We’re looking for professionals who can utilize a combination of the following qualities:
– Planners to develop programs
– Educators with an educational perspective
– Operations managers
– Dramaturgs with a cross-sectional approach to looking at plans, ideas and stories, and applying ingenuity to them
– Concierges well-versed in customer service

In the first half of the basic course, we will introduce dramaturgy and the work of the dramaturg who is charge of this aspect of a production.
