Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2022

Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture will hold Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony, a popular autumn tradition in 13th consecutive years at two venues in compliance with the prevention measures for the spread of infections of corona virus (Covid-19) for the first time in three years.

The latest information on program changes and cancellations will be announced on the official website.

*This event will be held in compliance with the event guidelines and venue usage rules issued by the national government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The official website has pages for event guidelines and venue usage rules for guests and organizers can participate in the event safely to prevent the spread of infections such as Covid-19.
*These countermeasures against Covid-19 infections are subject to change based on government policies and local infection rates.So, please check the official website before you participate.

How to participate

All tea ceremony programs at both venues require advanced reservations.
Participants may apply using “Application Form” on the official website or a reply-paid postcard. After the deadline, a lottery will be held to determine the winning reservations when the number of applications exceed. One guest can only reserve once per venue.

From September 1 (Thu) to September 25 (Sun)
*The official website from 10:00am on September 1 (Thu) until 11:59pm on September 25 (Sun)
*The postcard must arrive by September 25 (Sun).

Guests can request reservations via application form, first desired date and time, second desired date and time, number of participants (up to 2 people), and desired tea ceremony program.

■How to reserve by reply-paid postcard
On a reply-paid postcard, write items (1) – (9) and mail the postcard to the Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony Office.
・the postcard must arrive by September 25 (Sun)
(1) Desired venues (Either Hama-rikyu Gardens or Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum)
(2) First desired date and time (Either morning or afternoon)
(3) Second desired date and time (Either morning or afternoon)
(4) Number of participants (Up to 2 people)

Confirm your reservation

After the deadline, a lottery will be held to determine the winning reservations. The lottery results will be sent in early October via e-mail or return postcard.

Fee

Participation Fee
The participation fee for all tea ceremony programs is 500 yen including tax.
※Participation fee 500 yen to be paid onsite

Admission Fee:
Hama-rikyu Gardens:
General: 300 yen, 65ages+: 150 yen, Free for children aged 12 or under and junior high students residing or studying in Tokyo

Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum:
Free of charge during Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2022 (October 29 and 30)
