We are holding a screening of “Radio Shimo-Kajiro – From the music of that time and town, to here and now”as a learning program for an art project run by ACKT (Art Center Kunitachi).
“Radio Shimo-Kajiro – From the music of that time and town, to here and now” is a film capturing scenes from activities under the Radio Shimo-Kajiro project carried out a prefectural disaster-recovery public housing complex in Fukushima Prefecture’s Iwaki City (Directed/filmed/edited by: Haruka Komori/2023/64 minutes).
After the screening, there will be a post-screening talk with guest Wataru Asada, a cultural activist who has practical experience of organizing art projects. We share knowledge of project procedures and approaches, and also touch upon the musical piece “Fukushima Songscape,” which was produced at the same time.
“Radio Shimo-Kajiro – From the music of that time and town, to here and now”is a project set in the Shimo-Kajiro Housing Complex, a prefectural disaster-recovery public housing complex in Fukushima Prefecture’s Iwaki City. Since 2016 project organizers have been creating radio shows featuring recordings of memories of the towns where people once lived, together with well-known music. In 2019 organizers put together a“support band”in the city to provide live accompaniment to songs that bring back memories for residents. In March 2022 organizers released the CD “Fukushima Songscape” under the name “Wataru Asada and Shimo-Kajiro Housing Complex Residents.” The film is a documentary movie looking back on the processes involved in these activities, during which organizers accompanied residents.
