Uta-no-Sumu-Ie Project in Ryogoku

  • Organization : Sokkyou-karameru-dan
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Music

Outline

For this project taking place in Ryogoku in Sumida-ku, assorted local people and artists will collaborate through workshops on the composition of a musical piece. In addition to the pursuit of music, the dual goal of this cooperative creative process is mutual understanding between participants through the medium of art, and the building of a community in which an array of citizens can coexist. Community music activities will be developed according to these two pillars. With the cooperation of diverse townspeople, regardless of any disabilities or differences in profession and situation etc., activities will make use of resources like the local people and surroundings. The finished work will be presented in a concert, with organizers hoping the performance of a collaborative work will promulgate a vision of community built on music.

Workshop facilitators: Sokkyou-karameru-dan (Miki Akahane with Keiko Masaki) Music unit for each session
Kanayo Ueda (poet) February only
Concert performers: workshop participants with Sokkyou-karameru-dan and others

Profile

【Sokkyou-karameru-dan】
A music unit led by musician Miki Akahane and percussionist Keiko Masaki, which began its activities in 2006. As well as writing songs, experimenting and playing with sounds, and planning and implementing musical instrument-led workshops, the unit also performs at concert halls, live music clubs, public facilities and schools, etc. As organizers of the Uta-no-Sumu-Ie Project they aim to create musical pieces that are uninhibited, fun and free of conventional concepts, and music that could not be realized without the participation of each and every workshop attendee.
