HYBRID MUSIC presents a joyful concert that relates music to technology. We integrate the music machines of Martin Riches, a world famous creator of automatic performance system, with up-and-coming musicians. In this HYBRID performance, acoustic musicians collaborate with Riches’ machines, originally inspired by the culture and philosophy of 18th century automata, controlled by 21st century computer softwares. Composers from Germany, UK, and Japan including Masahiro Miwa, and soloists from Japan, US, and Italy, together with an ensemble from Japan and Germany, make this unique event possible.
Masahiro Miwa was born in Tokyo in 1958. He studied composition under Isang Yun at the Univeristy of the Arts (UDK) Berlin from 1978, and under Güther Becker at the Robert Schumann National Academy in Düsseldorf from 1985. Miwa has been the recipient of many awards including Golden Nica (2007) of the Prix Ars Electronica, Austria. Since 2000, he has been professor at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in Gifu, Japan. In the same year, he formed Formant Brothers with fellow professor Nobuyasu Sakonda. Formant Brothers is a composition cooperative and its works focuse on voice and machine.
