The Tokyo performance of the “NEW HERO” series, a project of regional rediscovery by the SANPIN unit of four actors. The actors themselves conducted the interviews used to create the work, with the aim of producing a stage piece that was more committed to the community and its people, and that would depict new attractions and aspects of Tokyo. This performance follows those in Hokkaido and Okinawa and includes some of the work created while they were staying in each place. Aspects of Tokyo as a city where people from various regions and countries gather are put together with anecdotes from people interviewed in Kita Senju, and presented as one work.
Written, directed and performed by SANPIN ( Shunya Itabashi, Wataru Kitao, Keizo Nagashima, Kan Fukuhara)
Formed in March 2015 by the four dancers/actors, Shunya Itabashi, Wataru Kitao, Keizo Nagashima and Kan Fukuhara. Under the concept that a fragment of one’s life constitutes the main part of someone else’s life, they collect “fragments” from small and special lives scattered throughout Japan and spin them into a single life. The works are created with troupe members conducting all fieldwork and interviews by themselves. SANPIN has attracted attention for the unique way the four of them handle not just performance material but the writing, directing, lyrics, melodies, choreography, crutches , sound and lighting operation, reception duties and venue arrangement by themselves.
