Outline

The Chofu Citizen’s Kabuki performances are a platform for the Chofu Citizen’s Kabuki troupe to learn the traditional Japanese performing art of Kabuki as part of lifelong learning, and for the troupe to present the results of their year-round rehearsals onstage. At the same time, modeled on the large kabuki productions staged at Kabuki-za Theatre and National Theatre of Japan, the group provides the local community with the opportunity to enjoy authentic kabuki performances.

【Foundation for the promotion of Chofu city’s Culture and community】
Operating out of Chofu City Culture Hall Tazukuri, Chofu City Green Hall and Chofu City Sengawa Theater, the Foundation for the promotion of Chofu City’s Culture and community contributes to the advancement of citizen-based culture and local community development by engaging in projects to promote arts and culture, as well as encouraging and nurturing independent cultural activities by citizens, and offering lifelong learning programs to promote community activities and meet diverse learning needs.
Chofu Citizen’s Kabuki mainly comprises graduates of the Foundation’s lifelong learning course, “Kabuki Class.” While studying kabuki for lifelong learning, the troupe’s members conduct mini performances and backstage tours at welfare facilities in addition to giving an annual performance.
