This exhibition centers on nine artists who have continued to work during the pandemic, and additionally looks at past exhibiting artists and their works in a retrospective of past activities.
*Art Brut refers to artworks with an untrained vitality described as “raw,” created using the artist’s own unique methods and ideas and unbound by established modes of creative expression.

Profile

【Musashino Art Brut Executive Committee】
Every July, the Musashino Art Brut Executive Committee, which revolves around Musashino residents, holds an art exhibition created through local collaboration. Starting with an exhibition based on an open call for participating artists in 2017 and following on from special exhibitions in 2018 and 2019, the 2021 exhibition marks the event’s fifth outing. Under the 2021 theme of “See, Make, Connect,” the aim is an exhibition that is conscious of the perspectives on both sides i.e. which “connects” not only the creators who “make” but also the viewers who “see,” for example looking at the commitment of the artist to creative expression, and the insights of the viewer and changes in his/her values. The exhibition will also focus on past exhibiting artists and their works in a retrospective of past activities, making this event a culmination of the past five years.
