Outline

The JR Chuo Line (center line) train track goes west out of Tokyo. The Center line art festival Tokyo 2021 was held as a platform to create and promote “citizen-supported art,” based around the line that connects the city center with the lives of the people. Five neighborhoods along the Chuo Line hosted nine programs over 23 days, featuring 18 artists working in a variety of expressive fields, as well as related events.

Profile

Co-production of art Works-M
Formed in 2010 as an art unit producing art on a per-work basis. To date the unit has exhibited ten works in city locations in Japan including Tokyo, Yokohama, Akita, Kobe, Kyoto, Okayama, Fukuoka, and Okinawa. The group started its production and management business in April 2015 for the purpose of cultural interchange between cities in the form of performing arts in Japan, and from 2016 it went into planning and production as well as web publishing. In the same year, it began running the educational initiative, M・O・W M-Lab Open class & Workshop. In 2020 the group established a book publishing division, works-m.books, and published “Koboreochiru karada-tachi.” The group focuses on building networks between cities in Japan as well as creating platforms and opportunities for multi-faceted and experimental expression.
