A film work is being exhibited as part of an installation piece by Yoi Kawakubo. Based on the video work “The God of the Labyrinth” shown at Shiseido Gallery in 2016, this new piece takes up the story using a combination of fiction and non-fiction in photographs and video taken by Kawakubo, narrative fiction sections filmed by a production team, and an interview with advanced researchers at the Institute of Research for Biomedicine, Barcelona. The work explores identity under the advances of science and technology – what it means to be human, the meaning of life – from the various perspectives of nuclear technology, genome editing technology, etc. Kawakubo’s examination of these issues will be presented as a work blending installation and film.
