Outline

“Subversive Bodies” is an exhibition that sets out to survey some of the contemporary art practices which question our understanding of the corporeal in relation to the factors of gender, identity, and sexuality. By “the corporeal“, we are referring to the multiple and ever-changing understandings of the body, how we define its frontiers, and also the politics that allow bodies to access varying levels of agency, autonomy, and mobility when situated from/in different contexts. The main emphasis of this exhibition is placed on the artistic uses of media, particularly analog and digital media such as graphic, photography, and video, as a means to expand the possibilities of the body by framing, reframing, and re-contextualizing its “presence” in new and exciting arenas of action or visibility.
