Community Music Now and in the Future

  • Organization : General Incorporated Association Monten
  • Section : None
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

Events where artists and diverse people collaborate to create art are now taking place all over Japan and have become widely accepted. Nevertheless, such activities have not been very well organized in Japan to date. In the field of music, activities like these sometimes go by the term “community music,” but this is difficult to define and is not commonly recognized in Japan. With community music initiatives currently expected to expand in Japan as well, the purpose of this project is to try and think about approaches to activities in Japan going forward, what community music is, and what results to expect. This is the second year of the project, launched in 2021. The aim is to share ideas and thoughts on what community music is with more people involved in the field, including artists, management, people working in welfare and government etc.
