Outline

This concert featured solo mandolin pieces by contemporary composers from two aspects: contemporary music with a focus on the era as one exhibiting tonality, beautiful sounds and distinct melodies; and contemporary music as a genre, with its approach towards greater innovation in expression and technique.

Profile

Takumi Mamiya
Born in 1993 in Suginami-ku, Tokyo. He took first place in the 10th ARTE International Mandolin Competition (Mandolin Solo), first place in the 25th Japan Mandolin Solo Competition, and third place in the 18th OSAKA International Music Competition (Folk Instruments). With a focus on solo performance, he also actively engages in the introduction and premiering of solo pieces for mandolin in Japan. He has also been expanding his activities overseas: in 2018 he was a guest artist at the 2018 CMSA Convention in Santa Rosa, organized by the Classical Mandolin Society of America.
