Outline

Elaborating on the widely-acclaimed APSARAS The 9th Concert (An Evening of All String Quartet Program) held in December 2020 at the Suntory Hall Blue Rose venue, APSARAS the 10th Concert, styled as “An Evening with All Trio Music Program,” focused on a group of works on the theme of the trio.
The APSARAS series aims to honor the works of composer Teizo Matsumura as well as to open up new musical horizons through performances of Teizo Matsumura Prize-winning works with APSARAS members.
In addition, by establishing and maintaining the Teizo Matsumura Prize – a composition competition for new works which has come to be valued in recent years and which was set up to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Teizo Matsumura – and by widely soliciting unperformed works, organizers have realized new forms of both competition and concert, in which award-winning works selected on the strength of their scores are performed together with works by Teizo Matsumura and by APSARAS members.
Works performed at this event were as follows.

Hiroto Yachimura: Muses No.1 “Mangata” for 3 players
Koji Fukumaru: “Figless Ⅱ” for vibraphone, viola and violoncello
Jun Kouda: “Rapsodia” per flauto grande, Violoncello e Pianoforte
Tsuneo Nakata: “Whirlpools”
Yutaka Takahashi: “Gensyo” Trio for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Piano
Chiharu Wakabayashi: “Triode///tree, wood, forest,” -for flute, Viola and Harp-
Ryotaro Abe: “Le vent de ce monde NO 5”
Teizo Matsumura: “Courtyard of Apsaras”

Profile

APSARAS
APSARAS was founded by a group of like-minded people in order to
celebrate the achievements of Teizo Matsumura, one of Japan’s most important composers, to communicate and promote his works to the world, and open up fresh frontiers in musical art through new creative/performance activities in accordance with Matsumura’s wishes. APSARAS is also a platform for the activities of its 23 members who are passionate about music (43 members if you include honorary members and supporting members: honorary members include Mr. Yasuo Watanabe). These activities include the holding of APSARAS concerts (1 to 9) which feature Matsumura’s works, the release of CDs, and the publication of collections of scores and posthumous manuscripts. In addition, the newly established Teizo Matsumura Prize reinforces the group’s focus on the younger generation.
