Outline

In this concert, koto performer Aoki Reiko and shakuhachi performer Aoki Koichiro will perform both solos and duets. The program comprises works by leading musicians of their respective eras such as Mitsuzaki Kengyo, Miyagi Michio, and Yamamoto Hozan, as well as a selection of works by composers in the Western music tradition like Irino Yoshiro and Moroi Makoto. In addition, a new duet commissioned from Negishi Kohsuke will be performed. By performing a succession of pieces with different backgrounds, and by showing more clearly the differences and common aspects of each piece, the audience will gain a deeper understanding of the works and performance methods for the instruments.

Profile

Aoki Koichiro
From an early age Aoki studied the shakuhachi under his grandfather Aoki Reibo the second and his father Aoki Reibo the third. In 2017 he graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts’ Faculty of Music, and in 2019 he completed a course at Tokyo University of the Arts’ Graduate School of Music.
