This concert was intended to show the world the current shape of the contemporary Japanese instrumental ensemble, and to once again inspire spiritual communication between people through music, by way of the keyword “dense,” a concept which has gained currency worldwide.
While the concert recounted past performances centering on the group’s commissioned works, it offered a more progressive performance of contemporary Japanese instrumental music.

Gendai Hougaku KOU
The group was established for the purpose of zealously unearthing and rediscovering the wealth of Gendai Hougaku (contemporary music for Japanese traditional instruments) archives left from the postwar Japanese music scene, and of revitalizing it as heritage from today that should be passed down to the future. Its activities revolve around offering society high-quality performances by outstanding performers of masterpieces that are rarely tackled because they require advanced performance techniques, and enthusiastically commissioning and presenting new works created with a novel sensibility in response to the high demands of ambitious and motivated up-and-coming composers.
