Outline

A project to communicate Minyo (folk songs) from Japan and Ethiopia, two countries connected over a distance of 10,000 kilometers. The aim of the project is to engender the creativity necessary to carry on the tradition of singing folk songs sung for generations.

MINYO CODERANNY
Minyo unit comprising Fredy Tsukamoto (Minyo singer), Kazuhisa Akiyama (Tsugaru shamisen), Kanako Mikado (Shinobue flute), and chan yuka (Ohayashi/Taiko). The unit’s activities got into full swing with the launch of Roots Music Sound Exchange Project in the summer of 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic. Under the motto “Minyo that everyone present will want to dance and sing along to,” the unit engages in a wide range of activities ranging from appearances in live performances and festivals to sessions with overseas artists.
