Outline

The second solo production by dance duo Jokkal.
Getting its inspiration from folklore and literary works expressing the unique spirit of the Japanese people, this stage work in four parts (spring, summer, fall and winter) expresses aesthetic concepts and the Buddhist philosophy of “mu” (“nothingness”) that have been passed down in Japan through time. Featuring dancers at the frontlines of various fields of dance including contemporary, Butoh, street, jazz, belly, and “erotic freestyle” and narration by guitarist Daoud Akira aka Kaimintei BKDN, former member of the world-famous band Kikagaku Moyo, Jokkal offers a mysterious world in the divide between reality and unreality.

Profile

misa
Learnt jazz dance from the age of 8 and appeared in various productions.
After attending a school specializing in street dance she began house dance in earnest, forming female house dance team Jokkal in 2011.
She expresses her unique outlook with musical selections and a dance style that transcends the house genre, centering on Kansai-area shows, contests and the dance battle scene. She later learnt genre-less expressive methods with origins in contemporary dance, etc. before arriving at her current style. Taking inspiration from diverse works of art, Misa expresses herself freely according to her individual interpretation. She regards dancing as an aspect of fun and engages in creation through play. In recent years she has focused on the themes of life, death, sex, and surrealism.
